Comfort Inn Huntington Near University Area

I booked a regular king, which is what I got when I checked in. I went to heat up something in microwave, well not in this room. I thought microwaves were standard in hotel rooms! Also, Ent to make coffee in room early the next morning and all they had stocked it with was decaf packs. So I won't put this on a list of definitely okay.

No safety grab bars in bathtub, not even a towel bar. Faucet was covered with black mold or mildew and no slip resistant material in bottom of tub. Hair was in bottom of tub. Wi-Fi not available and our cell phones worked sporadically. Checked out at 4:00 a.m. I have pictures. Offered me 20% off of future stay. NO THANKS

3 days after I got home I noticed red bed bug bites all over my back!!! The pool was empty, and the breakfast was maybe half of what it is at other hotels. The hallways smelled like smoke and then were very short staffed, and we had to be out by 10am on a Sunday!

My father was dying at a local hospital and I needed a room close to the hospital to grab some sleep. After having been up for 28hrs my sister relieved me at the hospital. The hotel was 5min away. They were able to accommodate my very early check-in request without question. The hotel is a little worn around the edges but it was clean, quiet, and the staff were great.

Check to make sure the pool/hot tub are functioning before you book. The breakfast was limited. The whole hotel smelled terrible. If given the option, choose a different place. This one was lackluster and disappointing, frankly.

Fellow travelers, do not stop here! We didn't look at the reviews first, so if you are seeing this, consider yourself lucky! I don't care how late it is, how tired you are, do not lose your money to this hovel! This is a franchise business with a District Manager who refused to talk to customers, and the Manager will proudly defend the hotel, even though it would never pass a quality assurance inspection IF this hotel was actually accountable to those standards, but again, it's a franchise. They can have zero standards if they so choose. They have 2 whole housekeepers and no standards for housekeeping or customer service. We were in 2 different rooms that were both filthy. We had to ask the desk person for a vacuum so we could vacuum our own room, which was covered in toe nails! The room we moved from due to the smoke smell and burn holes also had melted gummy bears on the floor. In both rooms, my shoes were practically squeaking on old filthy carpet. We had the thin, worn out stuffing of a duvet for a blanket, so it was a rough night, just trying to get a little sleep before getting out of there as early as possible. We talked to the Manager about a refund, who informed us that the District Manager doesn't even talk to customers anymore, and she's the one who told us they only have 2 housekeepers for the entire hotel, which would explain why so many rooms are not done, HOWEVER, I would like to know what the local Health Department has to say about selling dirty rooms. They were adamantly opposed to giving us a refund, and I figure this must be how they make most of their money. Don't lose yours! Sorry I was too much in shock to snap photos of the burn holes on our blanket and ourselves with the vacuum, but I did get the toenails and gummy bears.

Property was fine in general. They make checkout time an hour earlier on the weekends and bill $50/hr to stay later. It's a money grab that penalizes families. Breakfast was marginal. It met the legal definition, but that's about it.

Apparently West VA has a very liberal smoking policy for hotels, so if heavy smoking is your thing, then this is your place. The room had the feel of a room you'd get after picking someone up at a bar. The comforters had burn holes in them, the sheets had black marks that either came from someone's shoes or the ashes from their cigarettes. I didnt shower the next morning because someones hair was on the shower walls so it clearly had not been cleaned. We only stopped there because it was a half way point to another city. We had a moving truck with us so it wasn't like we could easily leave and find another hotel - plus it was late and we were tired so we dealt with it for one night. The staff was very nice, though!!

The very first room that I was given had the DirecTV box and remote stolen from it had a used tampon behind the television / microwave/ refrigerator center. I discovered the used tampon because I was actually looking to fix any connection issues that may have been wrong with why I couldn't get any channels on the TV. This instance (the fact that the DirecTV box and remote were gone and there was an entire used tampon behind the TV) speaks to how little of attention housekeeping pays to each room. When you see something like that, it doesn't matter what room they put you in after. You know that cleanliness is not top priority. All of the cigarette burn holes in the blankets in both rooms was also extremely off-putting.
